In early September of 1989, the founders of BTECH, Inc, Manny and Arlene Laidig, Jack Wurst, Allan Dob, Steve Garron, and Neal Barlow, met at the Laidig’s residence on Druetzler Court in Whippany, NJ. The meeting focused on planning the next steps in launching their new company which initially operated out of the basement of Arlene and Manny’s home for two years, before expanding and moving to BTECH’s first facility in Whippany.
As BTECH grew, Allan took over running the Engineering department. He was responsible for the design of most circuitry, printed circuit boards and sheet metal of the S1, S2, S3, S4, UW1, CR1, CW1, and BC1 battery monitoring devices as well as the design of the sheet metal and a portion of the electronics for the LVIRA, HVIRA, and S5. He created all the artwork including graphics for our sheet metal, brochures, and manuals. Allan has a knack for creatively solving problems. For specialized product requirements, such as custom racks, RASP Panels, and HMI interfaces, Allan would discuss concepts and feasibility with the Sales team, then proceed to design, draw with remarkable precision, develop a bill of materials and finally build the solution.
Allan then became the Manager of Engineering Services, serving as an interface between Engineering and Service. During his BTECH career, Allan was an integral part of training and providing technical support. His technical expertise allowed him to communicate various concepts clearly and effectively, regardless of his audience.
As the first generation at BTECH retired or moved on, Allan remained a steady presence, consistently available to support our customers, technicians, and service partners. He remained dedicated to refining our technology, designs, and products, always with a focus on meeting our customers’ needs.
Allan attended Passaic Adult Evening School, where he took courses in Mechanical Drafting and Machine Design and Printed Circuit Design while working as a Draftsman. He worked at Monsanto Electronics for 3 years drafting electronic test equipment. He then spent 19 years at Singer Sewing Machine Company, starting as a Senior Draftsman, and steadily advancing through roles as Printed Circuit Designer, ultimately achieving the position of Engineering Associate, Level II. During this time Allan acquired 10 patents on electronic sewing machines. Manny had then purchased patents from Singer Corporation and with Allan and the rest of the founders, established BTECH, Inc.
Allan has been a long-time resident of New Jersey, where he and his wife raised their two children. He has a deep love for traveling, having visited every state in the U.S. and most national parks. In addition, Allan enjoys computers, model railroading, photography, and gardening.
Now retired, Allan continues to share his passion and expertise with the next generation of BTECH employees by providing ongoing consulting services.
